Last First Day of School

Hey everyone! I hope your weekend has gone well and you’re enjoying this last month of summer. I’m holding on to every second of it.

I haven’t updated my blog in a while, and for that I apologize. I’ve been swamped with working, practice, and all of life’s other responsibilities.

Inspiration has also evaded me. It can be challenging to come up with a topic to write about, and it was hard to share outfits when my summer wardrobe consisted mainly of workout clothes or work clothes. Super cute right? Not really.  I was sure that no one cared to see me in that attire.

With school fast approaching, I’ve managed to kind of get my life together-mostly because I have to. Hopefully, I’ll get back on track with posting blogs too because I really missed it.

My senior year of high school starts on Tuesday and I couldn’t be more excited. Not for the school part, but the last year part. It’s also kind of bittersweet because time has gone by so fast, and I’ll have to grow up pretty soon. I always tell my friends and family that I don’t necessarily want to be an adult, but I definitely want to be out of high school. Maybe I’ll find a way to maintain that balance.

The first day of school was always exciting for me growing up. There was something about meeting new teachers and seeing who was in your classes that made me eager to start. I’m going to get superficial here, but the first day is also the day to make first impressions after a long summer of not seeing anyone. Everyone always seems to dress their best those first couple weeks of school. Tuesday will be my last “first day of school” in the traditional sense. It will be my last time participating in the annual dress to impress day.

To celebrate, I thought I’d share a possible first day of school outfit that I threw together.

First, I had to get out the backpack.

I wanted to go with a simple approach, so I put on some jeans and a white blouse.

image

To stay in the spirit of summer, I added a pop of color to my outfit with my purple tie-dye adidas.

It’s been a while since I’ve held my backpack, and let’s just say I didn’t necessarily miss carrying it everyday.

My outfit was pretty simple, but that’s how I like it. Some of the boldest statements are made when you say nothing at all; the same can be said about fashion.

I’m still not sure what I’ll wear on Tuesday, but whatever it is, I’ll wear because I want to wear it. My advice to everyone starting school soon is to be yourself. High school doesn’t last forever, so don’t waste your time trying to impress people you are around for a small portion of your life at the expense of your own happiness. Make yourself happy because you have to live with yourself for the rest of your life.

Good luck to everyone starting school soon! I wish you all the best for this new year, and hope that you enjoy these last days of summer!

Red, White, and Blue

This summer is flying by. I can’t believe it’s already July! Before I know it, I’ll be back in school.

One of my main goals this summer was to stay productive. So far, I think I’ve managed to do so. I just got a new job, and for the past couple of days I’ve been training. To all of you out there who think retail is easy, it’s not. My job will be a new challenge for me, but I’m so happy that it’s keeping me busy!

Due to the 4th of July promotion going on at the store, we were told that we could wear any red, white, and blue combination for the next few days ( if only the dress code were always that loose).

I could’ve just worn a basic red shirt with some jeans, but I wanted to play with my outfit a bit more. What I wore today wasn’t too complex, but I felt that it was still cute, functional, and festive.

image

I wore a white( well, it’s more cream)camisole blouse with a bright red work shirt. I really like the cami because it has a corset in the back (which I’ll show another time) and it’s very frilly and girly.

The weather outside was warm, but I knew I was bound to get cold being indoors for a large fraction of the day, so that’s why I opted for a quarter sleeve layer.

image

We were allowed to wear jeans today, so I definitely capitalized off of that! My light denim jeggings from American Eagle are so comfortable, and they are becoming such a staple for me. I can wear them in so many different ways. For today, they were the blue that went with my red and white.

image

My dad got me on Sperrys about five years ago, and since then I haven’t been able to quit them. I got this pair a few months ago, and they are really comfortable-perfect for standing on your feet all day. They’re also pretty cute too. I like the contrast they create with the rest of my outfit.

image

I don’t dabble in makeup much, but when I do, I keep it light like I did today.

image

I also kept my accessories minimal, opting for my red studs and pearl earrings with my simple silver necklace. On the rings, the words “faith” and “joy” are engraved-they acted as simple reminders to get me through the day. I threw my hair into a ponytail to get it out of the way, and my look was complete! I felt festive, stylish, and ready for work!

I’m so excited for all of the opportunities and experiences that will come my way in the next year. I can’t wait to share them!

Happy 4th!

Friday Feeling

Well, its Friday. The weekend shouldn’t hold much significance to me, as I’m on summer break which is basically a two month long weekend, but it does. School may be out, but the grind doesn’t really stop in a lot of ways, especially for those who have summer jobs or rigorous summer workouts.

Today was absolutely beautiful. The temperature was nice and toasty just how I like it. The sunshine was endless, the sky was a vivid blue, and the trees were a calming green as they rustled in the slight breeze. Summer is my season; I love it to death.

Luckily for me, I was able to step outside for a couple of hours. It was so nice to finally be able to wear an outfit and not cover it up with a jacket or sweater  because of a chill in the air. I don’t know how many times I had to do that this past spring.

IMG_8445 (2)

Green is one of my favorite colors.  It’s so pretty and calming. This fact may have been why I opted for this green top. It’s frilly, flirty, and perfect for summer.

IMG_8454 (2)

I love contrast, so that is why I added a purple tank under my top. I thought it complemented the light green nicely.

IMG_8456 (2)

To accent the colors in of my top and tank, I decided to wear my khaki shorts. They are one of my favorite pairs of shorts, and they topped my outfit off nicely.

IMG_8459

As for shoes, I chose my comfy brown sandals. Like I said, I’m a contrast type of girl, so naturally I chose dark shoes to balance out the lighter colors of my outfit.

Today was so nice, and I can’t wait for more sunshine and warmth to come. I hope your weekend is fun and bright.

Now, time for me to watch the NBA Finals. The Warriors just might sweep the Cavs( and their entire playoff run…) Crazy stuff!

Fresh in Flannel

School is out, Memorial Day weekend came and went, and it’s June 1st. Summer is here, at least unofficially anyway. Summer is definitely my favorite time of the year. I love its liveliness, warmth, and chill atmosphere.

The one problem I have with summer time is my inability to find things to do with myself. Sometimes I get so bored. School is a drag but at least it kept me busy. This summer I want to make it a point to stay productive or at least somewhat entertained. It’s so easy to immediately retreat to my phone as soon as I get bored, and then the next thing I know, an hour has passed and I have accomplished nothing. I hope to stray away from this kind of behavior this year by reading, going outside, maybe landing a job, and hanging out with my friends.

Luckily I had an excuse to leave my house today.  My mom needed me to run a few errands, and then I went to go see one of my friends. I use any excuse to assemble a cute outfit, even if I’m not going anywhere that is particularly special. Today, I opted for layers and simplicity.

IMG_5038

The day started out pretty warm, but as it progressed, clouds began to move in, and the wind became much more than slight. Cautious of the ever changing weather, I wore my pink flannel over a white camisole blouse. I thought the colors and the textures worked pretty well together. It may not be visible in the photo, but my white shirt has a subtle floral texture on it, which is perfect for summer.

IMG_5065 As for my bottoms, I opted for some denim shorts. Nothing goes better with flannel than denim. I though the dark color of the shorts contrasted well with the light, airy colors of my flannel and cami.

IMG_5069

During the summer time, I usually wear sandals, slip-ons, or sneakers, but today I wore my leather booties. This was a strange move for me, as I usually reserve these boots for the fall and winter months, but I thought they would go really well with the flannel. I also kind of wanted a lift. I l like to create levels with my outfits. The lift, I felt, would bring out the flare of my cami. It sounds strange, I know, but this is really how I think. Ultimately, I’m glad I took the risk!

IMG_5080

IMG_5084

I kept my accessories minimal and simple. I wore a single silver bangle, my faux pearl earrings, and pink studs.

Summer is one of my favorite seasons for fashion. I can’t wait to share more looks in the next couple of months!

Hopefully, you’re staying productive!

A Year and Counting

Today I got out the balloons and confetti. Why? On March 11, 2016 Couturely Sound launched, but I didn’t really feel like I had started a blog until I published my first (two) post(s).So today, I am celebrating the anniversary of my first blog post which was on March 19th of last year. I am so proud of my blog and all of the content that I have published thus far. Mostly, I’m really glad that I haven’t given up on it because it is so easy to when results don’t come immediately. This blog has been so fun to write, and I really can’t believe it has already been a year! I put my heart and soul into this thing, and I hope to for many more years to come. This blog of mine has been one of my greatest accomplishments!

Reflections aside, I want to talk about today. This time last year it was cold, snowy, and dreary as I prepared for my first shoot. Not the case today! Colorado has been experiencing unseasonably warm temperatures. Typically March and April are the big snow months but I guess the weather had other plans, and I’m not complaining. Thank you, weather patterns! The official start of spring is just a few days away, and it was sunny and 75, so I kept my outfit frilly and sweet.

IMG_8289

I wore this frilly dress  with an empire neckline from Charlotte Russe. I love the print and the color on this dress because it is still girly, and in the spirit of spring, but its not too bright. Sometimes I think spring fashion can be a little cheesy sometimes.

Earlier in the day, I was out with my family, and around 11 am  or so, it was a little breezy, so I brought my trusty poncho along with me.

I was quick to take it off though.

I can’t forget about the details.

I thought this ring was perfect with my outfit! It was so nice to get out today and enjoy the weather!

Thank you to everyone who reads and supports my blog! Your encouragement is one of the reasons that I continue to do this!

Enjoy this weekend!

Little Black Dress

img_8177

February is almost over, and despite the chilly temperatures, I can feel spring coming. The transition between seasons is always so hard to dress for. One day it’s 65 degrees and the next day it’s snowing!

Earlier today, I went out to run some errands. Since it was chilly, I decided to go classic and wear a black sweater dress because black works for pretty much any occasion. With the dress, I wore my gray coat and dotted tights.

img_8173-2

As for shoes, I chose my black leather booties. They never fail me.

img_8163

Since my tights are pretty busy, I often wear them with solid colors. I thought they complimented the dress and elevated the overall outfit well.

img_8148-3

There are flecks of white in the knit part of my boots, so they also help accent the dress along with the tights. I’m all about the details!

img_8143-3

Every girl needs a little black dress in their life. They are simple and always classy.

img_8152-3

I am definitely ready for spring! I can’t wait to ditch sweaters and boots for florals and sandals, but for now, I’ll just have to be patient. 🙂

Have a great weekend!

Pretty in Pink-Valentines Day Inspired Looks

It’s already mid February, and Valentines Day is fast approaching. Valentines Day is not my favorite holiday by any stretch of the imagination, but I love what it contributes to the February color scheme.  During December and January, I am typically wearing dark, cool colors. In a way, the clothes I choose to wear reflect the cold atmosphere and the cloudy weather. When February comes around, the color scheme starts lightening up, slowly moving towards a spring pallet. Thanks to Valentines Day, February is equipped with reds, pinks, purples, whites, and every shade in between. I love the color scheme because it is really girly and flirty. As well as colors, Valentines Day inspires great accessories, makeup, and beyond. In general, fashion becomes more playful and colorful, and that is when it is at its best.

Today was a typical Saturday, but I still had to leave my house, so I had some fun with my outfit. One of my favorite things to do is experiment with different outfit combinations. I knew I wanted to look girly, so I based my outfit around some pink jeans I bought from American Eagle about a year ago.  With my jeans, I wore a cream sweater and camel colored boots.

img_7991

To accessorize, I added my heart-shaped necklace. I thought it looked nice against the texture of the sweater.

Pink, fuzzy socks? Check.

I take inspiration from any place I can get it. Down below are some looks that have inspired me. They are perfectly pink for February and Valentines Day!
